Bengaluru man files police complaint after wife demands Rs 2 crore, calls him impotent

Bengaluru: A 35-year-old from Vijayanagar has lodged a police complaint against his wife and in-laws, alleging harassment and assault, and claimed they demanded Rs 2 crore by accusing him of being impotent. 

Based on the complaint from Marenahalli resident Praveen KM, the Govindarajanagar police have registered an FIR against the woman, her parents and eight relatives. 

They have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections related to house trespass, voluntarily causing hurt, extortion, intentional insult with intent to provoke the breach of peace, criminal intimidation, and attempted murder. Further investigations are underway. 

Praveen said in his complaint that he had an arranged marriage with Chandana, 29, a resident of Tarikere, on May 5 this year, with both sides sharing wedding expenses. He claimed the reception costs in Bengaluru were borne by him. 

He told the police that he was unable to consummate the marriage in the first few days due to physical and mental stress. However, his wife mocked and humiliated him, called him impotent and defamed him within her family. She later complained to his mother, after which her relatives barged into his Bengaluru house and humiliated him further. 

Praveen told the police that doctors declared him fit for conjugal relations following a medical examination, noting that he had developed performance anxiety caused by physical and mental stress. 

On June 5, however, a group of 15-20 people from Chandana's family stormed into Praveen's house and allegedly demanded that he transfer Rs 2 crore worth of immovable assets in her name. She later left his house. 

On August 17, Praveen alleged, Chandana and her family members broke into his house, ransacked valuables and attacked him with lethal weapons. They also slept outside his house. He said he had to be hospitalised due to the assault. He has submitted CCTV footage and medical documents to the police.
