Bengaluru slum demolition: Congress High Command expresses concern, urges CM, DCM to implement relief measures

New Delhi: The Congress High Command on Saturday expressed serious concern over the demolition of unauthorised constructions in Kogilu village, Bengaluru, and asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to implement relief and rehabilitation measures for the affected families.

Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal said spoke to CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar—who also handles the Bengaluru Development portfolio—about the issue and urged them to provide relief to those impacted.

"Conveyed the AICC’s serious concern that such actions should have been undertaken with far greater caution, sensitivity, and compassion, keeping the human impact at the centre," Venugopal posted on X.

Both the CM and DCM have assured that they will personally engage with the affected families, establish an appropriate mechanism for addressing grievances, and ensure rehabilitation and relief for those impacted, Venugopal added.

The CM, who was in Delhi to attend the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, told media persons that the Greater Bengaluru Authority had demolished illegal settlements after following due process.

He also said that the site where the illegal houses had been built was designated as a waste-disposal site and was not suitable for human habitation.
