BJP forms 'fact finding committee' over Bengaluru eviction

The demolition drive has escalated into a major political row, with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and politicians from that state too wading into the issue.

Bengaluru: BJP state president B Y Vijayendra on Wednesday formed a seven-member fact-finding committee to “uncover the facts” behind the destruction of houses at Kogilu Layout in North Bengaluru.

The committee comprises MLAs S R Vishwanath and S Muniraju, MLC K S Naveen, party state general secretary Thammesh Gowda, state vice-president Malavika Avinash, district president S Harish and former Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao.

The BJP has opposed the government’s decision to provide houses to those whose houses were demolished, alleging that they were “illegal immigrants” from Bangladesh. The party has sought a high-level probe to find out the antecedents of the residents.
