A woman was killed and two were injured after a BMTC bus ran amok due to alleged brake failure in Sadduguntepalya under Indiranagar traffic police limits on Friday morning.

According to police, the driver of the  BMTC bus plying on the Majestic-KR Puram route lost control over the vehicle and mowed down Yesa, 34, who was waiting for the bus at Sadduguntepalya bus stop. Yesa, a resident of Baiyyappanahalli, was a housekeeping employee in a private company at Bagmane Tech Park.

Muniraju, 34 and Lavanya, 20, who were at the bus stop sustained injuries in the accident. The bus came to a halt after hitting a traffic signal post. Upon being alerted by the passersby, the police rushed to the spot and shifted all the three to a nearby hospital where Yesa was declared dead.

Indiranagar police have reregistered a case and arrested Kumar, the driver of the bus. Kumar, in his statement, has claimed that the brakes of the bus failed. “We are waiting for the report from RTO to know the exact cause of the accident, based on which action will be taken against the driver,” an officer attached to Indirangar police station said.
