A gang of three men barged inside a bungalow and robbed an elderly woman of gold jewels worth Rs 10 lakh near Doddabommasandra on Saturday night.

A senior police officer said the incident took place at the Mookambika Farmhouse, where Ila Chandrashekar (85) lived with her specially abled son Aravind (52) in a bungalow. The suspects had entered the house from the back door around 1.30 am and found Ila, who was asleep on the ground floor. They tied her down and fled with the gold jewels and Rs 30,000 in cash.

Around 3 am, Ila managed to free herself and rushed to check on her son, who was sleeping on the first floor and found him unharmed. She realised that the burglars had not gone to the first floor, the officer said.

She informed her relatives about the incident, who in turn, informed the Vidyaranyapura police.

The police said, according to the victim’s statement, the three men conversed in Kannada, and were familiar with her family and belongings as they asked specific questions about certain pieces of jewellery. The bungalow neither has security guards nor CCTV cameras.

The police suspect that people close to the victim are responsible for the crime.
