Chain-snatcher 'caught' by pet dog in City

A few days ago, Chikkamma, an elderly woman from Malleswaram was returning home from Subramanyanagar after purchasing pooja materials. When she was crossing the railway track, a youth snatched her chain and ran. As she screamed for help, Vijaykumar, who was nearby, along with his pet, Johnny, heard her and he began chasing the chain-snatcher. However, it was his dog that managed to catch the culprit and pounce on him at 15th ‘A’ cross, Malleswaram.

“The dog caught hold of the culprit’s calf muscle and then, it was the chain-snatcher’s turn to shout for help and began seeking for forgiveness. Later, a few more residents joined us and we handed him over to the police,” said Vijaykumar.

The police recovered around Rs 1.5 lakh worth property and a revolver from him. Vijaykumar said, “The pet is with us for the last two years and today, he has made us proud."
The accused is Azaruddin Kilji alias Ilahi Bakshi Kilji (23), a resident of Yashwanthpur. He had completed his BCA in Andhra Pradesh and was doing diploma in networking (2nd year) at Roman Institute of Technology, Rajajinagar. His father is an English professor and the accused has confessed that he took up crime to fullfil his girlfriend’s dreams. Meanwhile, top cop appreciated the brave act of D M Thayagaraj, a senior citizen, and Anthony and Rajendra, who were instrumental in catching chain-snatchers in different cases.
