<div>Thirty children of gravediggers’ families at Kalpalli cemetery in Bengaluru have made a few new good friends. A group of volunteers from an NGO are visiting them daily to conduct after school classes right at the graveyard. <br /><br />Twenty dalit families live in the graveyard here and make a living by digging graves. They have been pursuing their family profession for the last three generations. <br /><br />Most of them have not gone to schools and find it difficult to get any other work. As digging graves is a low paid job and with burials not happening every day, they struggle to feed their families. <br /><br />They do not want their children to follow them into their profession. All the families hope that their children will get good education and find better prospects in life. <br /><br />The children go to nearby government schools and were not happy with the quality of teaching there.
