Colleges likely to raise cut off percentage

Last Updated 18 May 2016, 21:08 IST

This year, students can expect high cut off percentage during admissions as many of them have same scores, according to PU colleges.

Having received applications three to four times more than the number of seats, the cut off percentage could well be higher.

In MES PU College, the cut off rates are expected to be higher by 0.5% as compared to the previous years. This, the college authorities say is the highest cut off percentage in the last 10 years.

“In Electronics, last year, the cut off percentage was 97.25. This year, it will go up by about 0.5%,” said Dr Ramu, principal of the college. By Wednesday, the college had received as many as 7,700 applications while they have just 800 seats.

Sister Ashwini, principal, Mount Carmel College said that the cut off rate was expected to touch 92 per cent this time around. For 1,900 seats that they have, the college has received over 6,000 applications.

One of the main queries of the students, who have approached the colleges, is whether they would be given coaching for NEET exams. “I had many anxious students come and talk about the same. They wanted to know if we will also offer coaching for this,” said the principal for MES College, Rajajinagar.
