<p> Mohan Kumar alias Manjunath (34), a resident of Srirampuram, had attacked Murthy Nanjunda (35) with knife near N P Block Library in Srirampuram on June 4. Nanjunda, also a Congress partyworker, had succumbed to injuries.<br /><br />On a tip off, the police arrested him in Cottonpet and recovered the knife used to commit the crime. During interrogation, Mohan Kumar confessed to the crime. He told police that Nanjunda had bagged a contract to construct 20 toilet rooms in N P Block. Mohan requested him to construct a few of them near his house. When he refused, Mohan thought that Nanjunda’s popularity would hamper his (Mohan’s) political growth if the toilet rooms were constructed. Hence, he decided to eliminate Nanjunda.<br /><br />UP doctor assaulted<br /><br />Devanahalli police have reportedly taken six persons, including an engineering student, into custody for questioning in connection with a robbery case involving a doctor from Uttar Pradesh last month. Police gave the name of the prime accused, Ujwal, pursuing BE in an engineering College in Manipal. <br /><br />According to police, the victim, Dhananjay Kumar Sinha, a doctor in Uttar Pradesh, used to refer students seeking medical and engineering seats in Karnataka to Ujwal. After the seats are confirmed, Ujwal used to give between Rs 50,000 to one lakh to Dr Sinha per seat. Last year, differences cropped up between the two and Dr Sinha stopped referring the students to Ujwal.<br /><br />Last year, Ujwal hardly made any money and decided to settle scores with Dr Sinha. As per Ujwal’s invitation, Dr Sinha came to Bangalore on May 10 and stayed at a lodge in Gandhinagar. Ujwal invited him for lunch and said, he would send a car to pick him up. <br />Dr Sinha got into the car, and was joined by two unidentified persons near Anand Rao Circle. Minutes later, all the three threatened him at knife-point and snatched his valuables including an ATM card. They withdrew Rs 8,000, took him to Turuvekere and beat him up. Later, he was taken to Hesaraghatta and kept at a farm house. Hours later, he was taken to another farm house on the outskirts of Tumkur and then to Devanahalli. On reaching Devanahalli, the accused stopped the car on the roadside. Two of them got down and the driver was alone. Dr Sinha escaped and cried for help.<br /><br />The car driver sensed danger and fled along with the car, while the other two accused also managed to escape. Dr Sinha registered a case of robbery against Ujwal and five others.</p>
