Dr Justice S R Nayak, Chairperson, Karnataka State Human Rights Commission, has in a release said that: “while records show that the Jnanabharathi police are guilty of violating the constitutional and human rights of Mahesh Kumar, it was only just and appropriate to give an opportunity of being heard to the police officers concerned as required by the Protection of Human Rights Act before making any appropriate recommendations to the State government.”

Two months ago Mahesh Kumar was picked up by the Jnanabharathi police in their efforts to trace his elder brother Raghavendrakumar. While the victim’s mother pleaded for the release her son on lack of any knowledge about Ragahvendrakumar’s whereabouts, the police have allegedly said that they will release Mahesh only after finding his elder brother.
