Malleswaram police have unwittingly solved a two-year-old undetected murder of a home-alone woman in Vijayanagar, while investigating a robbery.

Prashanth, a man arrested on a charge of robbery, admitted that he was part of a gang whose other members were Bhaskar, 35, and Syed, 25.

Investigators then detained the two men. The two suspects “confessed” to murdering a woman, Manjulamma, who worked as a prostitute, according to Sandeep Patil, DCP (North). Further investigation revealed that Bhaskar and Syed regularly visited Manjulamma at her home in Vijayanagar.

Police have quoted the two suspects as having confessed to slitting the woman’s throat and hitting her with an iron rod after she snatched their wallets and gold ornaments when they were in an inebriated state and refused to return them. They had f led from the spot.
