<p>Bengaluru: Following the recent death of 68-year-old Seethappa, who was mauled by stray dogs outside his home in Kodigehalli, Karnataka Lokayukta Justice BS Patil has intervened to prevent such incidents across the state.</p>.<p>On Monday, he summoned BBMP officials after Lokayukta SP Kona Vamshikrishna submitted a report regarding Seethappa’s death, holding the civic body responsible for dereliction of duty.</p>.<p>The report criticised the BBMP for failing to set up observation homes for aggressive dogs.</p>.<p>In response, Suralkar Vikas Kishore, BBMP Special Commissioner (Health), said an observation home in Yelahanka was nearing completion, with a capacity to house 40 to 50 dogs.</p>.<p>Justice Patil directed the BBMP to establish such centres in every ward, stating one shelter was not sufficient.</p>.<p>Members of the Nethravathi Colony Residents’ Welfare Association also met the Lokayukta on Monday, reporting that 40 to 42 residents had suffered dog bites since January. They said that the BBMP often catches strays, but releases them back into the same neighbourhood.</p>.<p>The Lokayukta expressed displeasure at the BBMP’s lack of seriousness and insisted that aggressive dogs be properly sheltered.</p>.<p>He also said he would convene a meeting with the Animal Husbandry Department to review its operations across the state.</p>
