Five stray dogs found dead in Bengaluru's KR Puram, cops suspect poisoning

Bengaluru: Five street dogs were found dead in one place in eastern Bengaluru’s KR Puram last week. Police have opened an FIR against an unknown person, suspecting that the dogs were poisoned.

The incident unfolded on June 18 at Battarahalli in KR Puram. The case came to light after the regular stray feeder, Ronnie D’Costa, 51, discovered five dogs dead with bleeding mouths. Following the incident, Ronnie filed a complaint with the KR Puram police station.

“I have been feeding 12 stray dogs for the last 11 years. I found five dogs dead when I went to feed them around 10.30 pm on June 18,” Ronnie said.

Based on the complaint, police have opened an FIR under BNS Section 325 (mischief by killing or maiming animal) and the Cruelty to Animals Act.

An investigator in the case told DH that they suspect poisoning and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to see if anyone poisoned the dogs.

“We have sent all five bodies for postmortem and are awaiting the report to ascertain the reason,” he said.
