Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister G Parameshwara laid the foundation stone for the construction of an arch in Vijayanagar near Mysore Bank Circle on Friday.

Many pro-Kannada organisations had been asking the government to build an arch in Vijayanagar for a long time. The project will be taken up by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Mayor R Sampath Raj said: “The Mysore Bank Circle has been known for its numerous protests for the growth of Kannada language and this arch will stand as a testimony to represent the history and culture of the Vijayanagara dynasty.”

“The arch coming up near the Cauvery Bhavan for Vijayanagar will help beautify the place. The work will be completed in six month’s time,” tweeted G Parameshwara. Pro-Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj was also present during the programme.
