Geethavishnu, grandson of the late businessman and politician D K Audikesavulu, wants the police to release his Rs 2 crore-worth Mercedes-Benz G-Class sports utility vehicle.

He is accused of driving the car drunk, causing injury to six persons including three children, last month. Geethavishnu is presently out on bail.

Following the accident, the high-end SUV suffered significant damage to its bumper, bonnet and headlamps.

Geethavishnu has filed an application before the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, seeking the release of the vehicle on the grounds that the expensive SUV required proper maintenance, which he believes it will not get if it is with the police. His high-end car was seized by the Jayanagar police and is now in the possession of the Central Crime Branch. His application is likely to come up for hearing on Friday.

Geethavishnu, 27, caused the serial accident near Southend Circle on September 28. He was on the run till he surrendered on October 2. He was booked for drunk driving and also under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act as the police found 110 gram of marijuana in the SUV.

“In most cases, it is up to the court to decide on the release of vehicles involved in crimes, especially under the NDPS Act,” a senior police officer said. “Police can only recommend release, but we don’t have any further jurisdiction,” the officer said.
