Bengaluru: Union Minister and Bangalore North MP Shobha Karandlaje has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to hand over the entire 45 acres of land in Hebbal (Amanikere) to Namma Metro for building a multi-modal hub, including a depot.
.
She also asked for reconsidering the government's decision to allot only nine acres to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).
.
"If the land is diverted for any other purpose, there cannot be bigger injustice and crime besides choking the entry point of the city. Furthermore, the failure to hand over the land will also negate industrial growth in Bengaluru North, which is seen as an industrial corridor,” the MP wrote in her letter dated July 15.
.
She had written a similar letter on November 4 last year.
.Karnataka HC orders notice to state, Centre & BMRCL on metro fare panel.
Shobha argued that the Hebbal land is crucial for building a world-class multi-modal transport hub, a key solution to Bengaluru’s traffic congestion, last-mile gaps and future mobility needs.
.
"Denying the full land risks derailing a vital infrastructure project, choking a major entry point to the city and stalling the growth of North Bengaluru. Public interest must take precedence over pressure from vested lobbies,” she wrote.
.
The union minister reminded the state government that the project falls in her Bangalore North Lok Sabha constituency.
.
"The land parcel the BMRCL has requested is one of the large pieces available at such a prime location. Reconsider the decision of giving only 9 acres to the BMRCL, and give the whole land parcel of 45 acres in Amanikere (Hebbal), which will reduce transit time of passengers, provide fast, efficient and effective form of transportation and ease the pressure on road traffic to a major extent,” the MP said.
.
“The state government must accord high priority towards creating citizen-friendly public transport infrastructure instead of buckling under the pressure of real estate and private lobbies,” reads the letter, also marked to Commerce and Industries Minister MB Patil.
