The High Court of Karnataka on Monday sought clarification about the names of ward committee members approved by the BBMP commissioner.

A division bench comprising Justice Jayant Patel and Justice B A Patil sought to know if the BBMP Council's approval was also required for appointment of ward committee members.

Hearing a batch of petitions on solid waste management, the bench adjourned the next hearing to Monday.

Advocate K N Putte Gowda, appearing for BBMP, said that after receiving the application from various groups including SC/STs and resident welfare associations, the names of ward committee members were finalised by the BBMP commissioner. He assured the court that the BBMP commissioner would be present before the court to clarify the approval given to the names.

The bench then asked the petitioners to file their objections and individually mention the names and the reasons why such a person should not have been selected, in the next hearing.
