Senior party leaders in the JD(S) will be finalising the candidate for the post of deputy mayor on December 3.

After holding a meeting with senior party leaders in Bengaluru on Saturday, party leader and MLC T A Sharavana said that the final decision will be taken on Monday regarding the aspiring candidates for the post.

“Party supremo H D Deve Gowda will be returning to the city from his international tour on December 3, and we will finalise everything,” said Sharavana.

As of now, there are three aspirants for the post, including Netra Narayan, JD(S) party leader in BBMP and Kaval Bairasandra ward corporator, Bhadre Gowda B, Nagapura ward corporator, and Rajashekara N from Vishwanath Nagenahalli ward.

Even the chairmen for four of the 12 standing committees will be given to the JD(S) corporators in the BBMP Council.

“Like the previous year, we are demanding to retain the post of chairman of Tax and Finance Standing Committee in the council meeting,” he said.

During the previous term, the JD(S) corporators had held the post of chairman of Standing Committee on Public Health and Welfare, Tax and Finance, Town Planning and Improvement, and Ward-level Works Standing Committee.

The post of the deputy mayor fell vacant after the sudden demise of Ramila Umashankar, who was elected during the BBMP mayoral elections held in September. Former regional commissioner Shivayogi Kalasad had directed the BBMP to hold elections for the post of deputy mayor and also for the chairmen of the 12 standing committees on December 5 at the BBMP head office.
