<p>Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Malleswaram will be the first KV in the state to run classes in the second shift. It is one of the four KVs in India that has been given permission to run second shift of classes.</p>.<p class="bodytext">With the move to add an additional shift, KV Malleswaram will throw open an additional 640 seats for students. Currently, there are 1,836 students studying for classes one to twelve. To begin with, permission has been granted from class one to eight.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The Belagavi cantonment region earlier had second shifts between 2005-2007. It was discontinued after an improvement in its infrastructure.</p>.<p class="bodytext">According to sources in the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, the second shift will commence from July 15 of the 2018-19 academic year. Classes will be conducted between 8.30 am and 2.40 pm for these students.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The school had received as many as 3,040 applications as against the 120 seats that were up for grabs.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Principal secretary of the department of primary and secondary education, Shalini Rajneesh said that it was due to increased demands that the second shift was sanctioned. There are 48 KVs in Karnataka.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The Sangathan will also recruit separate teaching and non-teaching staff for the school to function in the second shift.</p>.<p class="bodytext">While students in the first shift will have classes commencing from 7 am to 12.25 pm, the second shift timings will be between 12.30 pm and 6 pm.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Permission has been granted for the KVs this year by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.</p>
