A 24-year-old labourer was run over by a tipper at the Namma Metro construction site near Kempegowda Bus Station in Majestic early Sunday.

The police have identified the deceased as Santosh Oram, a native of Jharkhand. Around 2.30 am, Santosh was giving directions to a tipper carrying soil and coming in reverse. The driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed Santosh. The rear wheel of the vehicle ran over him.

The labourers at the site rushed Santosh to Victoria Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Santosh was working for a private company, which had taken up a contract with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), the police said.

The BMRCL said that Santosh’s parents have been informed about the incident. Arrangements are also being made by the contractor to shift the body by air to Jharkhand.

While the contractor will provide immediate compensation of Rs 50,000 to the victim’s family, the BMRCL on its part announced an immediate relief Rs 50,000 to the bereaved family.
