Last Updated 07 June 2017, 20:59 IST

A health checkup drive conducted for employees of BMTC has found that they are prone to a host of health issues.

Finding their lifestyle to be the cause, the checkup discovered that the around 800 employees - drivers, conductors and technicians - were suffering from severe blood pressure variations, varicose vein, heart ailments, asthma, hypertension, etc.

Doctors from Vikram Hospital treated the employees. “Most of these employees spend hours working and do not go for any medical checkups,” said

Dr Ravikanth Sharma who treated the employees. “We are always in the bus. We hardly get any time outside the bus,” said a BMTC bus driver who did not wish to be named. According to doctors, the employees undergo severe stress due to their pattern of work. Pollution in the city is a major cause for asthma among the employees, said Dr Sharma.
