A 23-year-old man has been arrested for molesting a 50-year-old petsitter near Bannerghatta Road, South Bengaluru.
Shivakumar, a filling station attendant, is accused of misbehaving with the woman around 9 pm on January 10. She takes care of two canines belonging to Dr Prakash R Kota, an industrialist from Basavanapura, off Bannerghatta Road. She has been living in at Kota's house for the past year. The filling station is located next to the house.
In a police complaint on Wednesday, the woman alleged that Shivakumar groped her when she was sitting outside Kota's house. When she screamed for help, he pushed her and fled the spot.
Kota said he was not in town when the incident took place and that his staff had called the Namma100 emergency line but police neither visited the spot nor took any immediate action. He said he visited the police station on January 15 and submitted the CCTV footage of the incident, but police refused to open a case unless the woman gave a written complaint.
Police have booked Shivakumar under IPC sections 354 (sexual harassment), 441 (criminal trespassing) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman). A court has remanded him in judicial custody.
