Mariyam Kousar, a victim of alleged medical negligence, underwent a complex surgery for removal of water from her brain on Tuesday at Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road in the City.
Dr S Murali, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, said the three-year-old child underwent an eventful brain fluid diversion (shunt) surgery. “The girl is presently stable and needs further monitoring,” he added.
Second opinion
Mariyam, who was allegedly administered an overdose of anaesthesia at Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedics, underwent the surgery after a second opinion was taken for the same.
The girl’s uncle B S Rafiulla said the surgery took almost three hours. The child was then moved into an intensive care unit. Currently, only doctors and the mother are allowed to attend on the child.
