Mercury dips in city after gentle evening drizzle in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Some parts of Bengaluru received very light rainfall lasting a few minutes on Tuesday evening in what is believed to be the city's first showers this summer. 

The drizzle brought down the mercury levels. 

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), both Bengaluru city and the HAL airport observatories recorded trace rainfall (0.01 to 0.49 cm). In some areas, the drizzle was followed by a bout of gusty winds. 

At 5.30 pm, the maximum and minimum temperatures in Bengaluru city were 31.9°C and 18.7°C — 0.8°C and 0.6°C below normal, respectively. Observatories at the HAL airport and the Kempegowda International Airport also recorded below-normal temperatures, as per the IMD data. 

The IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of thunder and lightning in Bengaluru city and the KIA, while the HAL airport is expected to receive a thunderstorm with rainfall. 

Rainfall likely after March 20

N Puviarasan, Scientist 'F' and Head of the Meteorological Centre, said that Bengaluru would not receive any rainfall for the next two days, but the skies would be partly cloudy in the evening and at night. 

However, Bengaluru and parts of South Interior Karnataka may receive rainfall after March 19 or 20, he added. 

While no changes in temperature are expected in South Interior Karnataka and coastal Karnataka, the mercury is likely to rise in North Interior Karnataka, the official said.
