Metro station names cause confusion

Bengaluru: The names of two metro stations on the newly launched Yellow Line have created much confusion and discomfort among passengers. 

Bangalore South MP, L S Tejasvi Surya, was among those who pointed out the mismatch in the names of Electronic City and Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara metro stations that are located 0.99 km apart. 

Stating that the station names came “straight out of a comedy script”, he noted that the Electronics City area is actually called Konappana Agrahara metro station while the Konappana Agrahara area is called the Electronic City metro station. 

“If you buy a ticket to ‘Konappana Agrahara’, you’ll get off at Electronic City. So you would have crossed your intended station one stop before, and will also be fined for the same. BMTC at least calls Electronic City ‘Electronic City’ and Konappana Agrahara ‘Konappana Agrahara’, but that just means you now need to memorise two different name sets and mentally swap them when switching between metro and bus,” he wrote on X and asked the BMRCL to fix the names immediately. 

The two stations were given different names in the Detailed Project Report (DPR). 

‘Electronic City’ was called ‘Electronic City-I’ (chainage 12.99 km) and Infosys Foundation Konappana Agrahara ‘Electronic City’ (chainage 13.98 km). 

The BMRCL changed the names after Infosys Foundation stepped in to fund one of the stations.
