'National record': Bengaluru hospital performs three heart transplants in 12 hours

Bengaluru: Bengaluru-based Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences has claimed a national record by completing three heart transplants within 12 hours.

With the support of green corridors created by the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP), traffic-free routes were created for the organs to be swiftly transported from various private hospitals to the recipients at Narayana hospital.

All three recipients, men in their mid-30s, had been on the waiting list for over a year. They had reached a critical stage of rising lung pressure that could have soon made them ineligible for transplantation, the hospital said in a statement.
