The high court on Thursday directed the Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai, to permit a class 8 student - an overseas citizen of India - to participate in pre-training and camp for International Astronomy Olympiad -2018.

Justice A S Bopanna passed the order while hearing a petition filed by Mohit, a student of Kumaran Public School in Konanakunte.

D Vijayakumar, the advocate representing Mohit, submitted that Mohit was born in the United Kingdom in 2004 and was eligible for the citizenship there. Mohit is on the list of 21 candidates selected for the National Astronomy Olympiad-2018. The exams for the international junior level will be held at Colombo in Sri Lanka in September or October.

To help to take part effectively in this competition, a preparatory and selection camp will be held in Mumbai on April 23. However, the Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai, and the director of Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bengaluru, had denied him the permission to participate in it saying that he was an overseas citizen of India.
