St Anne’s First Grade College for Women held its first alumni meet in the college recently. The forum, ‘LIFE — Love Inspires, Faith Encourages’, was inaugurated on this occasion and the event began with a cultural dance.

.
Guest speaker Dr Shailaja Shastri, HoD (Psychology), Jain University, took to the stage and had the students in splits.

To make the session interesting, Shailaja first engaged everyone at the auditorium in an exercise. The students were told to sing the names of the body parts that appeared on the screen in the tune of a nursery rhyme.

They had to touch the body part in the same order. In the next round, they had to follow the same exercise and tune, but the order of the body parts was changed. As expected, many failed to follow the act.

Then, she introduced the students to the underlying theme of the exercise — adapting to new concepts and the need to change our mindset.

Shailaja said, “Like many of us here, the moment we are told to do something different, we become unhappy. The women, especially, need to change their mindset. Many people may tell you that you are a woman and need to live within your limits. Don’t believe that you cannot achieve anything because you are woman.

Set your goals and work towards them. People may criticise you and laugh at your failures but don’t be afraid of criticism.” She concluded her speech by narrating a story on hope.

Many ex-students, who are a part of LIFE, recalled their college days and spoke about their plans for the current students of the college. They unveiled the calendar of events for the new academic year and the college website was also launched.

Mubeena Taj, a degree student, said, “We are very happy that LIFE has been set up while we are still in college. We all got an opportunity to meet the ex-students, which otherwise would have not been possible. Various seminars, cultural events and other programmes will be held through LIFE and we hope to learn about various interesting subjects through this forum.”

The event came to an end with dance performances from the pre-university students and the students of Inertia Dance Academy.
