Palike reward for composting wet waste

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has decided to offer rebate in garbage cess levied on property tax, for individual households which compost wet waste. It was earlier planned to provide the facility to bulk generators such as apartments and hotels.

The BBMP collects 10% of the property tax as garbage cess. The tax rebate for composting wet waste is likely to be around 2.5%. BBMP joint commissioner (Solid Waste Management), Sarfaraz Khan, said the incentive was aimed at encouraging people to compost waste.

BBMP commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad said the Palike had already starting training people on composting waste.
