<p>Making Cubbon Park self-reliant for water, the Horticulture Department on Monday inaugurated its ambitious Cubbon Park Rejuvenation (CPR) programme.</p>.<p>The event, coinciding with World Water Day celebrations, introduced various water conservation infrastructure around the park.</p>.<p>As part of the CPR programme, the repair work of six wells and building of 73 recharge pits were taken up under two phases since 2017.</p>.<p>Even though the work was completed in 2020, the inauguration was delayed due to the pandemic. The project was executed by the Horticulture Department in association with organisations like Friends of Lakes, Biome Environmental Solutions and India Cares Foundation.</p>.<p>Unveiling the work, Horticulture Minister R Shankar said: “The Prime Minister has launched Jal Shakti Abhiyan in New Delhi and we have implemented CPR work to harness and conserve rainwater at Cubbon Park. This will make us self-reliant in water.”</p>.<p>CPR team member T R Dhanush said about one lakh litres of water is available per day after the repair of six traditional wells at the park.</p>.<p>A total of Rs 85 lakh was spent on implementing the project.</p>.<p>The water harnessed during the rainy season will be stored in these wells.</p>
