Rowdy-sheeter's murder: BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj questioned for second time

Bengaluru: BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj on Wednesday was questioned for the second time in connection with the recent murder of a rowdy-sheeter in east Bengaluru. 

Basavaraj appeared before Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Prakash Rathod, the investigating officer in the case, at the Bharathinagar police station at noon. 

Speaking to reporters, the BJP MLA yet again reiterated that he had nothing to do with the murder. 

"I was asked several questions and I have replied to them. I have been served a notice to appear before the police whenever called. They haven’t given a date. I have assured them of my cooperation,” the MLA said. 

“I am reiterating that I have no connection with any of the suspects arrested or absconding in the case. I am a representative of the people, and anyone can take photographs with me. That doesn’t mean I am connected with them. The police have summoned me as I was named in the FIR. I have cooperated with them and will cooperate in the future as well,” he added. 

Shivakumar alias Biklu Shiva (40) was brutally attacked and killed near his residence in Meanee Avenue Road in Bharathinagar in east Bengaluru on the night of July 15. A total of 11 suspects have been arrested by the police, including the five who initially surrendered, claiming responsibility for the crime. 

The police have also launched a manhunt for Jagasiah alias Jagga, the prime suspect, who remains at large. Sources suggested that he may have fled the country.
