Paediatrician Dr Karunakaran said, "The boy's condition was really bad when he was admitted at our hospital; we had started the treatment even before the blood test reports could arrive.”

The doctor, who was attending on the boy said that they had suspected Dengue fever and had collected blood samples for test. Also, they had started transfusion of blood products like fresh frozen plasma and platelet concentrate and had also put the boy on ventilator, but since water had entered the stomach, he succumbed on Sunday.

A Dengue test normally takes 24 hours, according to the Officer-in-charge Dr Prasanna at the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune.

But the boy was admitted at M S Ramaiah for three days and his blood test reports is still expected.  "Sometimes, it takes time to deliver results. We will look into the matter,” said Dr Prasanna.
