<p>The play, directed by Dr M Sayeed Alam, who is also an eminent actor, will have actor Tom Alter in the lead role of last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar.<br /><br />The central character of the play is Badadur Shah Zafar Ghazi, languishing in the exile in far away Rangoon. The desolate emperor pines for his beloved Delhi. He takes solace in his poetry, the only possession the British could not take away.<br /><br />Penned by Union Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid, the play swings into fantasy and reality, past and present, logic and emotion and fact and fiction. In the present time, the emperor has an ardent admirer in Rudranshu Mitra, a student of History, who is seeking grant to visit Bahadur Shah’s grave in Burma (Myanmar) for his research work. He is so obsessed with the life of the Mughal emperor that he undergoes a virtual supernatural experience that transports him to meet Bahadur Shah in person.<br /><br />He slides into the world of Mughal rulers Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jahangir, Shahjahan and Aurangzeb, all of who saw the course of medieval India. Originally written in English, the play has been translated into Hindi by Ather Farouqui. It is being organised by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).<br /></p>
