Starters are the show stealers

Do you miss relishing home-like food? Then head to Desi Deck in Brigade Road for a feel-at-home experience.

Step into the colourful and spacious ambience and get yourself a table just next to the window. So you can enjoy the sight of the bustling street while you dig into your favourite dishes.

Each table has painted kettles which are used as cutlery stands. These kettles are handpainted with bright colours that complement the ambience. In fact, their menu also reflects vibrant desi elements - from the design to the names of the drinks and dishes.

While you make yourself comfortable, enjoy the popular cover songs in their playlist. The soft, romantic covers is an add-on to the entire set up.

Ask for a ‘Jaljira Vodka’ or a ‘Dhaniya Ki Dandiya’ to start with. These drinks are refreshing and great after a long day at work. The tangy-sour taste is an instant rejuvenator. If you are looking for something that is not very strong, you can go for the ‘Ice Gola Cocktail’. It is equally thirst-quenching but light in taste.

For starters, ask for a ‘Veg Sheekh Kebab’. They are soft on the inside and on the outside. The green chutney is a taste enhancer. You can also ask for ‘Amritsari Paneer Bhurji’. Though it tasted great as starters, I thought serving the paneer with bite-size rotis could have tasted delectable.

If you are looking for something non-vegetarian ‘Kesari Murg Kebab’ is a good pick. The charcoal grilled chicken is succulent and generously spiced. Squeeze some lemon on it, dip it in the green chutney and you are ready for some mouthwatering taste, ‘Afghani Murg’ is another starter you can order. It is one of their fast moving items.

While you enjoy your appetisers and your drinks, ask for ‘Nizami Handi’ and ‘Aloo Bhindi Masala’ with ‘Amritsari Naan’ or ‘Butter Naan’. The homemade taste of the ‘aloo bhindi’ will instantly make you feel nostalgic. ‘Nizami Handi’ too tasted good but was pretty bland. The salt content should be kept in mind. However, the ‘naans’ were the saviour.

For the meat lovers, ‘Chicken Rezala’ will be a unique choice. Relish this authentic Bengali chicken curry goes well with steamed rice. If you want to keep it simple, ‘Tawa Murg Pulao’ is the way to go.

Keep some space for the dessert. You wouldn’t want to miss the ‘Gajar Ka Halwa’. It is rich in taste and texture. Dig into the goodness of cashew and dates and enjoy the aftertaste of pure ghee.
