“We like  to check out exhibitions and specially designed collections from all over the country. We also enjoy mixing and matching pieces or putting together outfits that are unusual. Or team up a plain outfit with a rich dupatta or heavy jewellery. Flowing natural fabrics in bright colours, either customised or ready to wear work well for us. Jewellery is a very important accessory and can add a lot of panache if correctly matched. We go with beads and contrasts for effect.Touches of embroidery too dress up an outfit as long as it’s not overdone or excessive,” they say.

“I love sarees especially for dressy festive occasions but always team them up with unusual interesting blouses.Identically matched cholis are passe and bland so it makes better fashion sense to add a contrasting or off-beat blouse with a daring cut. As far as ethnic outfits go, I prefer to customise salwars and churidars to my taste which can vary from elegant understatement to bright bold colours,” says Usha. Rhea, on the other hand, is equally comfortable in an embroidered silk kurti paired up with designer jeans or a full-fledged traditional salwar/kurta for the evening. Embroidery, they both agree, should be used with discretion and one stunning piece of jewellery works better than several small bits and pieces.

“We like the traditional look with a trendy touch during festivals. Tasteful touches of embroidery like zardosi, crystals and sequins dress up an outfit adding a glitter and sparkle that go with the mood of the festival,” they say.

While Kamini favours deep reds and golds, Nikita loves emerald greens and fuschia, bright happy colours. Ready-to-wear clothes from good designers work best for them although they sometimes add touches of their own like a  rich borders to plain dupatta or a tasteful dusting of sequins and mirrors.

“Both of us are in the international fashion retailing business, so we like Western clothes in formal and informal styles. I go in for stylish, classic cuts while Sandhya goes in for trendy current styles. For the festive season, however, we both like sarees preferably in silks and chiffons in bright colours and with heavy embroidery,” says Veena.

Blouses are a very important part of the whole ensemble as is the jewellery and footwear. Evening sandals with eye-catching stone work are a very important fashion accessory, as are designer bindis or a jewelled clutch they say.
