Taking challenges head on

It’s one thing to figure out what you are passionate about, but another to make that dream come true.

Facing and overcoming the challenges along the way is what makes the journey precious. And the bigger the challenges, the better it tastes when it finally comes true.

Bengaluru-based band ‘Rainburn’ is one such example; it is now setting up its wings to touch the sky! Vats Iyengar, the founder of ‘Rainburn’, started it in 2011 and since then, the band has been through a number of ups and downs.

But its spirit is still as strong as when it first started. What keeps the members going is the audience’s reaction towards their classical rock music.

The name ‘Rainburn’ is an oxymoron, says Vats, “The name suggests that we cover a wide spectrum of music.” Before starting the band, Vats was a part of a few other bands but that did not give him satisfaction. So he decided to start one of his own when his music teacher Avik gave the idea.

Like any cub band, the biggest challenge it faces as a group is the inconsistency in terms of line-up. And because of these frequent changes, it takes a couple of months for the new members to get used to the other members.

Vats says, “From the beginning, the biggest challenge was to find the right musicians. Line-up changes often happen due to lack of commitment or lack of time.” He adds that it is no longer a problem to find good musicians for the band anymore as its name has grown in the market.

The band’s EP, ‘Canvas of Silence’, was named one of the top five classical rock music albums by ‘Classic Rock Magazine’ in 2015. The band has performed at different venues across the City as well as in other cities like Chennai and Hyderabad. They are hoping to perform in cities like Delhi and Mumbai in the future.

The band has also done some social contributions, which include a fundraiser for the rehabilitation of a park in Vasanth Nagar and awareness about the Kashmir floods.

‘Rainburn’ draws inspiration for its songs from the environment in and around them and the things that can’t be seen by the naked eye.

“I wouldn’t say that my ideas come from life, that’s a bit of a cliche. But honestly, ideas can come from anywhere — movies, documentaries, your surroundings, people you talk to, things you can’t say or feelings you can’t express,” says Vats.

Currently, the band is looking for a new guitarist and is concentrating on auditions.
