Therapeutics centre launched

The centre, inaugurated by Dr M K Bhan, secretary of Department of Biotechnology, provides advanced therapy for cancer treatment and other complex diseases.

The one lakh- sq ft centre located within the Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Centre will house bone marrow/stem cell transplant facility, immunotherapy, gene therapy, biomodulators to target specific diseases and in-vitro fertilisation.  The centre is supported by GANIT labs, Strand Genomics, Cornell University and University of California at Irvine.

Honour

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, the chairman and managing director of Biocon was conferred Citizen Extraordinaire Award 2011. The award, instituted by the Prestige Group and Rotary Bangalore Midtown jointly, is bestowed on persons in recognition of their contributions to society. Mazumdar Shaw is the sixth person to be honoured with the award.

Governor H R Bhardwaj and Prestige Group chairman and managing director Irfan Razack presented the award. Razack said Shaw’s foresight and vision helped establish Bangalore as a biotechnology hub.

“She is also a source of inspiration for million of women across the country,” he added.
