Tight security for I-Day

Security has been tightened for the 72nd Independence Day celebrations in the city. As many as 1,500 police personnel have been deployed at Manekshaw Parade Ground.

City police commissioner T Suneel Kumar said nine KSRP platoons, five CAR platoons and two Quick Reaction Teams have also been deployed at the ground. Apart from personnel, 56 CCTV surveillance cameras, four baggage scanners and weapons detectors were installed at the entrances and strategic locations near the ground. Police have banned carrying cigarettes, lighters, still cameras, water bottles, eatables, firearms, explosive substances, helmets, radios and umbrellas at the venue.

The police have also made arrangements for smooth traffic movement around the grounds and have banned parking on Cubbon Road and MG Road.
