Yelahanka residents demand link road

The GKVK campus is now witness to a Rs 32-crore incomplete project, as the Standing Committee for Major Works has recommended that the work on the link road be stopped.

Two corporators K R Yashodamma and Indira, who are insisting that the project be continued, said all the eleven councillors in the Yelahanka zone were in favour of the project.

The Town Planning experts have designed the project considering the City’s growth over the next thirty years, said Kuvempunagar corporator.

“The road, included in the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) 2015, passes through GKVK, Thindlu and Vidyaranyapura and is a major connecting road between Yelahanka and Yeshwantpur,” said the corporator.

The work on the road began only after receiving the State Cabinet’s approval to develop the road in 2007, said former councillor E Krishnappa.

Nearly, 80 per cent of the work has already been completed, he said. "Why is there an objection at this stage? The road will help residents of the surrounding areas. In fact the GKVK officials transferred the disputed 24 acres of land to the BBMP only after giving a list of pre-conditions,” said Krishnappa.

Clarifying the stance of the BBMP, Standing Committee for Major Works Chairman H Ravindra alleged that the residents were speaking on behalf of S Subramanya, the former Palike Commissioner.

"Why did not Krishnappa and Yashodamma raise these issues when they were inspecting the road? The issue will be discussed in detail at the next Council meeting,” he said.
