<p>Mangaluru: Barke police have registered a case against nine undertrials for attempting to damage and disable the jammer devices installed at district prison in <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/mangaluru">Mangaluru</a>.</p><p>In a complaint, Jail Superintendent M H Ashekhan said that five 2G/3G mobile jammer devices had been previously installed in the prison. </p><p>To upgrade these devices to 5G, a contract was signed with TCIL, and they were assigned the task of upgrading the equipment. </p><p>The only remaining step was for TCIL to hand over the upgraded devices to the department. However, an attempt was made to disable the jammer devices in sections ‘A’ and ‘B’ of the prison by the inmates. </p><p>Additionally, efforts were made to damage the devices by placing cotton on them and sprinkling salt on the AC units. This act was reported by TCIL officials to the Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, Karnataka, on February 28. </p>.44 undertrials fall sick due to suspected food poisoning in Mangaluru district jail.<p>Upon receiving the report, the District Jail authorities in Mangaluru reviewed CCTV footage, which confirmed that nine undertrial prisoners attempted to damage and disable the jammer devices. </p><p>After discussing the issue with concerned officials from the concerned agency, a complaint was filed requesting appropriate action to be taken against those involved.</p><p>In a separate case, the Superintendent said after 56 jail inmates suffered from suspected food poisoning and were sent to Wenlock Hospital for treatment on March 5, a few undertrials gathered at the prison and shouted using abusive words and also damaged public properties at the prison. </p><p>The undertrials assaulted the staff at the prison and also destroyed the CCTV footage.</p>
