Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) president Basavaraj Javali on Thursday, sought a CBI probe into the alleged assault on him by BJP MLA Abhay Patil.

Addressing the media in Bangalore, Javali said that Patil, his brother and his aides assaulted, and threatened him over a road work project.

The Rs 6.85-crore road work project under the Assistance to States for Development of Export Infrastructure and Allied Activities (ASIDE) scheme, approved by the Visvesvaraya Industrial Trade Centre (VITC), had been started at Matsse under the PPP module, he said.

Javali alleged that Patil, who claimed credit for the project, invited him to his (Patil) office on April 30, where he attacked Javali and four others, and threatened him against talking about the issue.

Though, a police complaint has been lodged, the case could be manipulated as Patil is a legislator, Javali feared.

He said both KASSIA and FKCCI had extended support to him.
