<p>Hassan: There were celebrations galore at the house of <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/india/karnataka/momentous-kannada-writers-hail-banu-mushtaqs-booker-win-3549959#google_vignette">Banu Mushtaq</a>, the Indian writer and first Kannada author to win the prestigious International Booker Prize for her anthology of short stories ‘Heart Lamp’ which was presented in London on Tuesday.</p><p>There were a lot of people visiting and wishing the family members at her residence in Pension Mohalla in Hassan on Wednesday.</p><p>Banu’s husband Mushtaq shared the joy with his son Taheer, daughter-in-law Yasin, and granddaughter by sharing sweets.</p>.Congratulations pour in for Banu Mushtaq for winning International Booker Prize.<p>“This is an honour for Karnataka, especially Hassan district. We were waiting curiously for the announcement of the award at the ceremony in England. It was an unbelievable moment when it was announced,” said Mushtaq.</p><p>Banu's son Taheer said, “We are yet to come out of it. Earlier, Booker Prizes were awarded to novels. Hence, we had doubts. However, this time they have given it to a collection of short stories penned by my mother. It is a proud moment for the country. We are all very happy”.</p><p>Bar Association member Chennangihalli Srikanth said the prestigious Booker Prize for the Kannada work has brought immense happiness. </p><p>"Let Banu Mushtaq write many such books and scale great heights in literature. We also congratulate and wish all good for Deepa Bhasthi, who had translated the works," he said.</p>
