Hundreds of residents from Haradoor village in Arkalgud taluk staged a protest in front of the government hospital accusing local representatives and authorities of disrespecting mortal remains of CRPF jawan Chandra H S, who was killed in an ambush by Maoists in Sukma district on Tuesday night.

According to them,  neither elected representatives nor senior authorities visited the hospital and mortal remains of the jawan were treated like those of a beggar.

They demanded the district administration to respect the mortal remains or hand them over to the villagers for a respectful funeral.

The villagers along with members of the jawan's family did not permit shifting of the mortal remains.

The district administration hurriedly arranged for the public to pay their homage in front of deputy commissioner's office after the protest.

Prithvi, Chandra's wife was inconsolable when she reached the DC office. She was told about her husband's death only on Thursday morning as she is pregnant.

The mortal remains are being taken to Haradoor village in the afternoon where the funeral will be conducted by evening.

Chandra, 29, son of Swamy Gowda, had joined CRPF after his studies.
