Arushi S H D’Silva has won the second place in the Under-9 Girls category of the Karnataka State Schools’ Chess Championship held in Bengaluru recently.

The championship was organised by Innovator Chess Academy under the auspices of the UKCA (United Karnataka Chess Association).

Arushi, who is a prodigy from Derik’s Chess School, scored five points in six rounds and was tied with Shanjula Senthil and WCM Shriyana Mallya for the top honour. Although Arushi won with Shanjula with tie-break points, she had to content herself with being a runner-up.

Arushi is a third standard student at Carmel School, Mangaluru, and is daughter of Anand F M D’Silva and Rita D’Silva.

Derik’s Chess School talents Rima Rao of Indrali English Medium Higher Primary School, Udupi, and Lakshith B Salian of Ideal EMS also delivered impressive performance, bagging the fourth and fifth positions in the Under-7 Girls and Under-15 Boys categories respectively.
