<p>Bengaluru: Infrastructure Development Minister <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/m-b-patil">M B Patil</a> on Thursday directed officials to place a proposal, seeking Rs 17.60 crore required to acquire land to construct an airstrip in Chikkamagaluru, before the cabinet. </p>.<p>At a meeting with the department officials, Patil instructed the officials to present the proposal in the next cabinet meeting. </p>.<p>Chikkamagaluru In-charge Minister K J George was also present in the meeting. </p>.<p>The airstrips for Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu were announced in the 2023–24 state budget.</p>.<p>Patil said the Chikkamagaluru district administration has already provided 137 acres of land, located between Chikkamagaluru and Hiremagaluru, for the proposed airstrip. In this, 120 acres of land belong to the government while the remaining 17.1 acres of land is privately owned and need to be acquired. Of the total acquisition cost of Rs 24.6 crore, Rs 7 crore has already been sanctioned and Rs 17.6 crore is pending for release, Patil added.</p>.<p>“The matter is under the government’s consideration. The Karnataka State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) has been directed to release the remaining funds. The proposal has also been forwarded to the Finance Department, and the next step is to bring it before the cabinet,” he said. </p>.<p>In addition to the airstrip, a heliport is also planned for development at the site. Looking ahead, the minister emphasised that the infrastructure should be built with the capacity to handle large aircraft in future, he stated.</p>.<p>Patil also directed the officials to identify adjoining land parcels and begin the acquisition process.A team of experts from KSIIDC will be deployed for the task, he added.</p>.<p>Regarding the proposed airstrip in Kodagu, the minister said that the officials have been asked to resolve the land acquisition issues at the earliest and to identify suitable land for the project. </p>
