The total length of the highway in Karnataka is about 368.6 kms.

In his letter to the Union Minister, Yeddyurappa said that the highway passes through important cities- Hubli, Gadag, Koppal, Hospet, Bellary and Hampi. The road connects iron ore rich areas, where the government had proposed to promote steel industries.

Upgrading the highway to six lane would help the government to attract investment to steel industries, he said. He has appealed to the minister to take up the project under the PPP model at the earliest.
