'Legally questionable': Karnataka Congress disagrees with SC over Rahul Gandhi's remarks on armed forces

Bengaluru: A day after the Supreme Court reprimanded Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for his remarks on India’s armed forces, Congress leaders in Karnataka on Tuesday expressed disagreement with the apex court’s observations.

V S Ugrappa, Prakash Rathod and C S Dwarkanath, who held a press conference in Bengaluru, termed the Supreme Court judge’s remarks on Rahul ‘unfortunate, sweeping and legally questionable’.

Appealing to the Chief Justice of India to review the remarks made by the judge, the trio said that the latter’s statements had hurt the
sentiments of not just millions of Congress supporters, but also of those who revere the Nehru-Gandhi family.

“I appeal to the Supreme Court to review the remarks and provide relief. We are neither questioning the court nor the judge but these statements have brought pain to those who value the contributions of the Nehru-Gandhi’s family to India’s freedom struggle, and its democratic traditions,” said Ugrappa, pointing out that Article 19 of the Constitution gave every citizen the right to speak for the country’s national interests.
