<p>In a protest jointly staged by the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee, Mangalore South and Surathkal Block Congress Committee in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday, Corporator Lancelot Pinto said the hike in the property tax is posing a burden on the general public. <br /><br />During the MCC elections, the BJP members were making false allegations on the Congress Party by saying that Congress party levied tax on each and everything.<br /><br />But now it is the BJP led Corporation which has hiked the property tax and has also introduced tax on solid waste management, he said.<br /><br />Calling the MCC’s decision of fixing different tax amount under various categories as ridiculous, Pinto said a shop owner who used to pays tax of Rs 160 annually, has been made to pay Rs 600 as solid waste management tax. <br /><br />Coming down heavily on the BJP MLA Ramantah Rai said the BJP government is involved in back stabbing the people. “Chief Minister Yeddyurappa may seem to be soft spoken, but he is silently cheating the people of the State. By transferring the efficient officers, the State government is trying to save its party politicians,” he complained.<br /><br />Former MLA Vijay Kumar Shetty alleged District-in-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar of transferring Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav. “We all want the efficient Subodh Yadav to continue to work in Dakshina Kannada for another two years,” he demanded.</p>.<p>A memorandum was submitted to the Additional DC Prabhakar Sharma which is to be forwarded to the Governor.</p>
