Crop insurance: BSY alleges lapses in agency choice

State BJP president B S Yeddyurappa has alleged irregularities in appointment of insurnace agencies in the districts for disbursal of compensation under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

Addressing a press meet after a drought study tour here on Sunday, Yeddyurappa said that the state government had siponed off the insurance money by appointing agencies of its choice. “These agencies are appointed at the discretion of the state government and the Centre has no role in it.”

Yeddyurappa alleged that the state government had not paid the workers who served under the job guarnatee scheme. He claimed that money has been misappropriated in half of the projects executed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in Karnataka.

Noting that Karnataka was reeling under a severe drought, Yeddyurappa said that 99% of the crops had been lost and despite this fact, the chief minister had not visited the drought-affected areas.
