CRPF jawan guns down relative, two children

Yellappa Somappa Bajanthri (36), his children Somappa (6), and Aishwarya (6) were killed in the incident. Another son, Madan, was hit on his arm and has been admitted to a private hospital in Hubli.

Yellappa was hit by the bullet in his forehead, while his children were shot in their chests.

Background

Yellappa had gotten Shankrappa married to his sister-in-law’s daughter Galishri three months ago.

But within weeks of the marriage, Galishri complained of physical and mental torture from Shankrappa.

When the torture continued unabated, she submitted an appeal at the women’s police station in Hubli on Sunday and the police tried to make peace between the couple.

But at 3 am on Monday, Shankrappa headed to Yellappa’s house and picked up a fight with him. He then shot Yellappa and his children, and fled in a stolen bike.

Shankrappa was apparently posted at Jammu & Kashmir.
